Since being diagnosed with the pre-diabetic condition Syndrome X, Antony Worrall Thompson has done more than any other chef to reinvent the way we eat while managing glucose levels and maintaining a healthy weight. From Sweet and Sour Prawns to Spicy Lamb Tagine, the 200 recipes here demonstrate just how much world cuisines have to offer the diabetic. And although Western eating habits aren't always easy to adapt to diabetic requirements, he shows it is still possible to enjoy a traditional Sunday roast or an indulgent dessert. Each recipe has been analyzed by a dietician and is accompanied by at-a-glance nutritional information, making it easier to manage your condition and at the same time expand your culinary horizons. So whether you have diabetes, or live with someone who does, this is the book for food lovers who know that healthy food should also mean delicious food.
Antony Worrall Thompson is one of the UK’s best-loved chefs and restauranteurs. He found himself in his early career as head chef of Brinkley's Restaurant in London, opening Ménage a Trois in Kensington and being awarded an MOGB (the chef's Oscar) for achievement and culinary talent. After such a successful start to his career as a chef, Antony went on to open numerous restaurants and host many cookery programmes. He was a Ready Steady Cook regular, filmed several of his own series for Carlton Food Network, including Worrall Thompson Cooks, Simply Antony and So You Think You Can’t Cook. In 2003 he was appointed presenter of BBC1's hugely popular, Saturday Kitchen until May 2006. In May 2006 he left the BBC, after 14 years, to host the live cookery programme Saturday Cooks! on ITV until the end of 2007. Antony is currently hosting ITV’s Daily Cooks Challenge alongside a celebrity guest each day. His bestselling books include The Essential Diabetes Cookbook, The Essential Low Fat Cookbook, The Sweet Life and The GI Diet Made Simple, which has been translated into 8 languages. As someone diagnosed with Syndrome X, a condition which can lead to diabetes, Antony is increasingly in demand by broadcasters to comment on and discuss serious food issues such as diabetes, obesity, nutrition and the eating habits of children.
Louise Blair, a consultant food writer for Diabetes UK, specialises in healthy eating recipes. She is the author of Quick Cooking for Diabetes and co-author of Essential Diabetes Cookbook with Antony Worrall-Thompson.
