Are TV baking shows evil?

5th November 2012

Channel 5's The Wright Stuff had author and previous winner of The Great British Bake Off Edd Kimber on the programme to ask the question "Are baking TV shows evil?"

With the concern of the rise of obesity worldwide and health disorders like diabetes linked with overeating, Matthew Wright questions whether TV baking shows like BBC's Great British Bake Off are encouraging an unhealthy lifestyle? Edd Kimber though doesn't think TV shows like this are to blame but actually encourage home baking which is more healthy than most shop-bought cakes. Edd makes the point that unhealthy types of bakes that are being consumed are the processed junk food 'bakes' that are readily available and cheap rather than home bakes. He emphaises that cakes are not something to be eaten everyday and by making your own for occasions, you are going to be more aware of what goes in each slice you eat. Is this a cause to celebrate with Say It With Cake? We think so!
